Minor PeeWee B Capture Silver in 14-Team Clarkson (Mississauga) "A" Tournament!

2014-01-23

The Ottawa Sting Minor Peewee B team captured the silver medal in the Clarkson Minor Hockey Tournament Jan. 17-19 that saw teams from all across Ontario participating in the A division.

The team represented the Ottawa Sting with pride, defeating the Erindale Spitfires in a thrilling 3-1 win to open the tournament.  Following that, they dispatched the Willowdale Blackhawks by a score of 6-1.  This game was not without controversy, as a player from Willowdale speared one of our goalies near the end of the game, but the boys kept their cool and composure.

In a thrilling semi-final game the boys saw a 2-1 late period lead evaporate on a pretty passing play by their Toronto opponents, the Ted Reeves Thunder.  During four exciting overtime periods, the Ottawa Sting scored two overtime sudden death winning goals, both of which were called back as the goaltender was dislodging the goal. Finally, early in the fourth overtime period, the Sting scored on a two-on-two overtime to win the semi-finals and punch their ticket to the finals.

With a late start of 6:30 p.m. in Mississauga, and whiteout conditions outside, everyone was eager to make sure the team performed at the best of their ability to make the late trip home worthwhile, and the boys didn't disappoint!  Tied 3-3 going into the third period, an unlucky bounce with four minutes left and an empty netter resulted in a crushing defeat, but the Sting held their heads up high, capturing the sliver medal in the Clarkson tournament.

It was a great showing by all and definitely a stepping-stone for the upcoming playoffs.  Great weekend boys!

Go Sting Go!
