U9 A2025-09-03 - U9 A
Welcome to Tryouts!
The first OSMHA U9 Tryout will be:
Friday, September 5th, 5pm-7pm, Richcraft Sensplex, CIBC Rink
These will consist of skills assessment.Hi everyone,
Hope everyone who participated found the conditioning sessions by Next Gen useful. Welcome back to hockey season!
Now it’s time we start tryouts. Just some reminders:
- You must be registered with “intent to try out” with your House League Association. You need to be able to provide that proof when you check in on your first tryout day. No exceptions.
- For those that have Ottawa Sting tryout jerseys already, please bring both of them to the first session. Everyone should always carry both black and white jerseys (unless you are a goalie) even if you are told what colour your child will be in advance. In addition, if you already have a jersey, please use the jersey assigned to you last year, ie: don’t just use a sibling’s jersey for example, since the numbers have all been verified.
- Jerseys for those without one will be available on the first day.
- Arrive at least 45 minutes early the first day and be patient, sign in will take the longest that day. Look for a table set up – it will have a sign Ottawa Sting U9 Tryouts.
- Do not communicate with the coach at the arena or by email, text, etc. All communications should come through me, the liaison for U9. In addition, please stay clear of the evaluators and give them space to do their jobs.
- All players should be fully dressed and ready to go 10 minutes prior to the assigned tryout time to receive final instructions from the coaches. We ask that parents stay clear of the changerooms as much as possible and allow the kids to get dressed on their own they can come out to get skates tied if needed.
- Only show up to the time that you’ve been scheduled for – we cannot accommodate requests to move kids to other times. If you are unable to attend a session, your child will be evaluated based on the sessions he/she were able to attend.
The tryouts will be:

These will consist of skills assessment.

Goalies:
In addition to being evaluated during these sessions, goalies must be present for a separate goalie evaluation on: Sunday, Sept. 7th, Carleton U, Rink A, 2:00pm to 3:00pm.
The parking code for the Carleton U hotspot is: OCMHA5
TD Place, families are responsible to pay for their own parking if they choose the underground.
I will send an email out before every tryout session with specific assignments, etc.
As mentioned before, some kids might be asked to sit out some of the days. I will communicate directly with these families the night before. We ask that if your child is sitting out, they should still attend the session wearing their Ottawa Sting practice jersey over their street clothes and sit in the stands. We ask that you do not go into the changeroom and to let kids going on the ice have their space.
For the session
this Friday, here are your time and jersey colour assignments. This will be the only time names will be used since most people don’t have jerseys. Kids have been randomly assigned so please don’t read into the groupings.

I have also attached the
tryout drills for that if you wish to go over them with your child before the session. Note that kids will not receive any correction during the tryout.
Vickery/Rosenberg, please bring your trainer kits – you will be responsible to be trainer for the hour your child is on – please stay by the bench (but you don’t have to be on the bench). Thank you!
Good luck to all the players – they are prepared as they are ever going to be so be sure to be positive and let them enjoy the experience.
