Financial Assistance for Families in Need

To any families that require funding assistance for any or all of their children in the upcoming hockey season, please see the below links to organizations that provide funding in the Ottawa area. It would be suggested that you fill out the paperwork for these subsidies as soon as possible (within 2 weeks), as many are allocated on a first come first serve basis. If you require a sponsor or assistance with your application, please get in contact with the President of the Ottawa Sting ho can assist you through the process. Financial assistance may also be provided by the Ottawa Sting and/or through individual teams on a case by case basis. Please reach out to the Ottawa Sting Executive to discuss on a confidential basis.

-KidSport™ Ottawa currently offers three types of grant programs:
1. Funding for sport registration fees and/or equipment;
2. Donated sport team placements; and,
3. Donated sport camp placements.
To date KidSport™ Ottawa has helped over 700 children and youth from low-income families participate in sport.

-Applications for assistance can typically be submitted from January 15 to November 1, (varies by Chapter) with the goal to be equitably distributed over Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter activities. The funding is distributed with a focus on maximizing the cost and length of participation per activity per child.

The Ottawa Senators along with Canadian Tire, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, the Sens Foundation and the Ottawa District Hockey Association, have joined forces to make hockey more accessible to disadvantaged youth across our region by collecting gently used and new hockey equipment.

-Hyundai Hockey Helpers will help more than 1,000 kids a year through a partnership with KidSport™. KidSport™ is a national, not-for-profit organization that provides grants for registration fees and equipment to under-resourced children and youth aged 18 and under.
If you need assistance to help with the cost of hockey equipment and league registration fees, you can apply online through KidSport™. The application process is easy to follow and completely confidential.

-The foundation’s program is set up to promote, foster and increase access to amateur sport through the provisions of financial assistance and support to children ages 5 to 18 who might not otherwise be able to participate in amateur sport due to the associated costs.

-The City of Ottawa offers help with program fees so that all residents can take part in recreation and culture activities regardless of their ability to pay. If you are already a participant in a community or social service agency program, or if you are an individual or family with a low-income, you may qualify for the Ottawa Hand in Hand recreation and culture fee support program.

-Their Opportunity exists to provide families who can’t afford to enroll their children in local sports programs the means to. We believe that giving a child the opportunity to play spots will not only get them active but develop their social character and life skills.
