OSMHA Risk & Safety Management
The Ottawa Sting Minor Hockey Association has adopted a series of Risk Management policies and practices that help to make our members' hockey experience both safe and fun. We require all players, officials and parents to respect these rules and policies.
The volunteer screening process is a valuable tool in protecting our membership and our association. All volunteers are required to complete a Police Record Check in order to participate as a volunteer within the Ottawa Sting Minor Hockey Association.
Volunteer Police Record Check (PRC) forms are available electronically and at any local police station. With this form, you will also bring a signed volunteer letter which will be provided by Jahmiah Ferdinand, Vice President, Risk and Safety. This letter will be personalized. The Sting will not reimburse coaches who get these done without our consent. Upon completing the forms, please return the receipt to the OSMHA Vice President, Risk and Safety. The complete police record check will take about 1-2 months to be delivered to your house. Once it is, please send a copy of that to Darrin Meehan. It is your responsibility to be sure your approved PRC is submitted to our Vice President, Risk and Safety, for verification. All information will be kept strictly confidential. A copy of your form will be kept for OSMHA records and the original can be returned to you. Police Record Checks are valid for 3 years under the Ottawa Sting body, unless we feel there is a need for a person to update theirs.
Please read through the full details of the PRC process for the current season.
We continue to place emphasis on educating all participants about harassment and physical/sexual abuse issues in all aspects of our game. Included in this process is the educational program on the prevention of abuse and harassment in hockey for all team officials called "Respect in Sports or "Speak Out." We will continue to be pro-active in implementing educational programs to supplement the information some of you have already received at coaching, officiating and trainers clinics..
Please take a few minutes to read through our
District B Code of Conduct and the document Hockey Parents Can Make a Difference. You, too, can be the voice for fairness, responsibility, and safety in hockey within your community.
