Ottawa Sting Major Atom AA at The Mission
This past weekend, the Ottawa Sting Major Atom AA team went to the the Ottawa Mission to participate in a group community service event. Click to read full article.Jake Harding, the Ottawa Mission's Volunteer Coordinator, welcomed the team for the afternoon. He talked with the team about the issue of homelessness and shared how the Mission supports people in need in our community and helps get them back on their feet.
After a great discussion, the team rolled up their sleeves and got to work! Donning hairnets and gloves, they assembled 150 sandwiches that will be used for after meal snacks for those who have missed mealtimes or are still hungry, and in bagged lunches for clients who have started working again. After, the team brought out their Halloween candy that they had donated themselves and assembled Hope Packages attaching handwritten messages that they wrote. The Hope Packages will be offered to the Mission's clients attending their Addictions programs.
The players gave their time (and candy!) but took away so much more. It was a special afternoon for all players and parents of the Major Atom AA team!
