Ottawa Sting Return to Play Policy
It is important to recognize that we are working within an ever changing landscape when it comes to COVID and public health. As such, we ask that you are patient with us (and each other) and use common sense when making decisions that will impact your family and others. It is possible (likely) that the policy referenced immediately above will require changes throughout the season. We will endeavour to communicate all changes to all impacted members of the association. That said, please refer to the Risk & Safety portion of our webste for the most up to date information.
COVID-19 Vaccinations
We continue to watch the public health situation and recognize that more transmissible and dangerous variants of concern are contributing to a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections. However, it has become evident that the majority of recent COVID-19 cases are among those who are not yet fully vaccinated and that vaccines are the most promising way to end this pandemic.
Ottawa Sting and its governing bodies have been meeting to discuss mandatory vaccination policies for players and volunteers and the impacts these policies could have on our programs. We are considering how to best protect our community, especially since our younger players (born after 2009) do not have the option to get a COVID-19 vaccine at this time. We will keep you updated as the work progresses in the coming days. If you have any concerns about the association adopting such a policy, please reach out by email to
president@ottawasting.com as soon as possible
The Ottawa Sting Executive thanks all families who are already fully vaccinated for protecting yourself, your loved ones and your (hockey) community. If you have not yet been fully vaccinated, and are able to, please visit Ottawa Public Health’s website for information and a list of the closest vaccine clinics.
Health and Safety Protocols for Try-Outs
Some cohorts are starting their try-outs this weekend. As part of, or in addition to, following all provincial and Ottawa public health requirements, participants are asked to follow the following protocols for try-outs:
- only one parent/guardian attend at the facility with each player;
- parents/guardians are asked to enter the facility only 5 minutes prior to the start of ice time;
- parents/guardians are not allowed in the change rooms (with the exception of parents/guardians for U9 to U11 players who need assistance for skate tying only); and
- parents/guardians will have to complete a screening form prior to each ice time (the screening form will be provided by the liaison prior to try-outs.
Additional communications about protocols/requirements may be come if things change. Please make sure to keep checking the website and read your emails to ensure you are up to date on the most recent requirements.
