TRYOUT INFORMATION

The Sting U11AA tryout process will follow the U11 Player Pathway, which is supported by the Hockey Canada Long-Term Player Development Model. The multi-part tryout will assess players’ basic skills (skating, puck
control, shooting, scoring mentality), and a variety of tactical skills and concepts, such as offensive and defensive tactics and game-play abilities.
Each player will be given a fair opportunity to showcase their skills, and passion for the game, in a variety of situations. I recognize that different players may excel in different circumstances. As a result, I encourage
players and their families to simply approach the tryout process as a placement exercise, where players are placed into the setting that best matches their skill level. Development and enjoyment are maximized when
this is done properly.
Finally, please understand that each player must earn his or her spot on the team every year. Athletes develop at different rates and times, and tryouts are a seasonal reset and opportunity for each player to put his/her best foot forward, without prejudgment. The roster will be filled with the best, most competitive and determined players, who want to contribute to the team’s success. I understand that this can be a very stressful time for these young athletes. To help them, please keep the following in mind:

Prepare: U11 hockey moves to a 90-minute game clock (up from 50 minutes at U10). Conditioning, as a measure of competitiveness and determination, will be measured and valued during the tryout process.

Do what you do best: ensure that the evaluators get a good sense of your skills; don’t try to be someone you’re not.

Behaviour: behaviour and demeanor are also being assessed; please ensure that your player is focused, respects others, listens attentively to all instructions, and competes fairly in all tryout activities.

Go Sting!
