September 2, 2023

Good afternoon players and parents,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Ottawa Sting U13B try-outs!

This email is to give you an overview and expectations for the approaching tryout sessions.

Start Date: Your tryout series will start on September 6, 2023 and the U13B team is expected to be formed by September 11, 2023.

Coach Letter: If you have yet to acquaint yourself with the U13B coach, you can find their coach letter on the Ottawa Sting website under the tab marked “2023-24 Coaches”. http://ottawasting.com/files/ottawa_sting_u13b_-_coach%e2%80%99s_letter.pdf

Tryout Jerseys: For the entirety of the tryout series, your player will be identified by their tryout jersey number. Please ensure that you have a white and black tryout jersey with corresponding numbers, and that I have the correct number for your player. If your player does not have a set of Sting tryout jerseys, please advise me by email and I will have a set available for your player at the first tryout session. It is your player's responsibility to bring both jerseys to all tryout sessions.

Player Questionnaire: Please have your player fill out the U13B questionnaire before tryouts begin: https://forms.gle/2abrnihSEGhpNyiY6

Before arriving at the rink your player MUST:
  • Remove all previous team decals/stickers from your helmet as well as any on-ice gear (ie: shells).
  • Leave your cell phone at home or with your parents. Cell phones are NOT allowed into the dressing room.
REMINDERS
  • Please make sure you have both your black and white Sting tryout jerseys at every tryout session.
  • Please make sure the players are mentally and physically prepared for tryouts. This includes showing up with the proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Please make sure your player has a water bottle for the bench.
  • Please make sure your player does a gear/bag check before they come to the rink.  Forgetting a key piece of gear happens more often than you might think.
  • Although the COVID restrictions have been lifted, players experiencing any cold and/or flu like symptoms are to refrain from attending a tryout session and must communicate their absence with the liaison immediately. The health and safety of our players and coaches is very important to us as an association.
Please check your email daily for future communications and tryout assignments. Each email will also be posted under this age cohort on the Sting website, U13B News section.

While tryouts can be a stressful time, the process is meant to place every player at the proper level for their development. It is important that your player be well rested and hydrated in order for them to perform at their best. This is the start of their season and will set the tone for the season ahead.

We hope that your player enjoys their tryout experience and has fun while out on the ice! Know that we have an exceptional coaching staff at all levels, who will ensure all kids have a great season!

Any questions, please let me know!
