The Minor Bantam B Ottawa Sting moved up a couple of classes and then emerged as the class of the tournament, winning the AA/AAA North American Fall Championship in Boston over the American Thanksgiving weekend. The Sting went 4-0-1 during the tournament, winning four games against American teams and tying 1-1 with the Kanata AA Blazers.

After going 2-0-1 in the round-robin, the Sting defeated the Middlesex AAA Islanders from North Andover, Mass., 5-3 in the semi-final, setting up a championship showdown with the Freeport Arrows ’99 AA (Long Island, NY). After a shaky start, the Sting overcame an early deficit with two goals in the final minute of the first period to take their first lead of the game. The Arrows battled back to tie 3-3 midway through the second, but the Sting, displaying a newfound mental toughness, then took over the game. The Sting scored late in the second to take a lead they would never give up and then used their superior skating to unleash a barrage of goals in the final period to win 9-3.

The championship marked the second tournament win in as many tries for the Minor Bantam B Sting, who earlier this season won four consecutive games to win the North Bay A tournament, defeating the Whitby Wildcats in the final.

The Sting’s overall record currently sits at 16-4-2.
